Independence Day!
Girl Scouts celebrated Independence Day in many ways around north Austin.
Here are Brownie Troop 583 and Junior Troop 41395 after walking the Millwood Neighborhood parade.
They quickly headed for the ice cream.
Volunteer Training & Appreciation
The annual GSCTX Volunteer Enrichment
Conference offered a great array of speakers and breakout sessions. Volunteers from across the region checked out the 2024-25 Fall Product and cookie mascots, peppered CEO Paula Bookidis with questions, heard first hand about GSCTX and GSUSA plans for the future, and learned from each other.
BBSCU volunteers were among the many recognized by GSCTX and GSUSA. Your nominations to the SU resulted in their recognition. Thank you for participating in nominations and for all you do every week.
Troop 1446 Visits Cancún, Chichén Itzá
After 13 years of scouting together, Girl Scout Ambassadors from Troop 1446 and four adult chaperones visited Cancún, Mexico for their final troop trip. Most of the girls had been part of the troop since kindergarten at Summitt Elementary School.
The girls researched many different places before choosing Cancún. With the help of a travel agent, they were able to fly on the same flight together and book a group of rooms at a family resort that offered many activities including beach activities, trapeze school, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, and more.
One highlight was an excursion to Chichén Itzá, a ceremonial and archeological park from the Mayan civilization. This daylong trip included a stop at a cenote, a local swimming hole and water source at the site of a limestone cave collapse. It featured turquoise water with tree roots growing down and rope swings! Then, on to a local Mayan village for souvenirs and a typical regional lunch before arriving at Chichén Itzá.

Chichén Itzá is a vast archeological complex with many different ruins, including a ball field, marketplace, and the well-known pyramid/temple. With one last stop at the town square in colonial Valladolid, it was back to the resort. Our girls also enjoyed all the opportunities to take photos with beautiful sunrises and sunsets at the beach and on the volcanic rocks in the protected cove by the resort.
As each girl gets ready to head off on her new college adventure, we hope they will hold these memories of friendship, adventure, and camaraderie for many years to come.
2024 Summer Olympics
The GSCTX July patch of the month focused on the Olympics. Here is one Junior testing out French desserts to earn that patch! It was a close competition between creme brulee and lemon tarts.
For the first time, half the Olympic athletes are women and many were Girl Scouts and Girl Guides as children, as were some Paralympians.
Your Girl Scouts will be thrilled to learn that Simone Biles was in Girl Scouts, but do they know about Paralympian Tatyana McFadden?
